Our mission
is to develop from a small scope of key services geared
to the micro and small enterprises on Bonaire towards a sustainable
center:
CKB is to adhere to the following purposes:
• To
provide essential business skills, training, and support services
to micro- and small business entrepreneurs (MSEs) on a continuing
basis;
• Upgrade the quality of the MSEs support organizations
to provide business advisory and training services of the
supporting organizations;
• Promote an improved MSEs business policy framework with
the Island Government.
Through SESNA (Small Enterprise Stimulation Netherlands
Antilles) and the assistance of the SESNA Advisers, CKB has become
a professional business advisory and training institution, which
matches the quality of services of an international business
management consultants firm. CKB has a wide network of trained
SESNA business advisors and trainers and an excellent reputation
with the banks built on the
basis of trust, expertise and mutual understanding.
CKB's primary target
group is the micro and small enterprises as well as “starters.”
CKB has grown into a well-established
and reputable unit with highly skilled management and staff.
CKB is now also in the position to be engaged in other projects
such as Bonaire's 1st
Investment Conference.
The management of the CKB aims to provide business advisory services
to 331 MSE clients for a period of five years. Further CKB targets
to provide services to 150 MSE clients via part-time on free-lance
basis related business advisers and to have 1010 MSE’s trained
through business trainers in 202 groups of 5 MSE’s in 5 years.
In addition, the management of CKB aims at a target of 300 jobs
to be preserved and 60 additional jobs to be created in MSE’s
in 5 years time. The total investment and financial budget of the
CKB was Nafls. 985,140.
The Government has allocated Nafls. 150,000 per annum for a period
of five years, the excess was due to the pre-operating costs awaiting
SESNA and the higher operating costs than planned. The deficit
of the CKB operations was expected to be less than the funds allocated
by the government, which was the result of revenues from
EDF and MSE cost sharing in payment for fees business advisory
and training provided by CKB minus total operating costs. The detailed
operational and investment costs are illustrated in Annex 3. Management
proposed to reserve this surplus as a provision on a separate account
of CKB for possible employment at a later stage.
Taking into consideration the mission of the CKB we have to conclude
that it cannot be expected that the CKB will operate on a financially
sustainable basis. The main target is to assist the MSE’s
to develop into healthy businesses, which can contribute to the
overall economic development of Bonaire.
